Sustainable Development Thoughts – Lockdown Period

With so much negativity and sad news outside, I managed to introspect our lives and found some positive actions too.

When I pondered over the impact which we humans have been having on the Earth, I realized the importance of taking some action against the same.

The thought of maintaining the nature and environment as it originally was, has struck my mind and have realized the importance of Sustainable development and growth of the mankind.
The action towards the sustainable development, saving environment, etc., is not something which has to be done only by the environmentalists or the social groups. It is possible to do even by an individual, by simply taking the initiatives at their respective homes.

If each individual on this planet, decides to work towards sustainable development simply only for their families and homes, it will help the entire world for the objective of a cleaner, better and a healthier environment.

This lockdown period is all about the self-realization and the actions that can be taken individually starting from our homes for the sustainable development

Coming back to my self-realization, the current phase of the lock-down has given me the time to think for such activities and ideas where my family and myself can act accordingly and take necessary steps for Sustainable Development.

There is an activity which we have been undertaking for around 10 years now, of Composting our Kitchen Waste. This initiative was started by my father, Pankaj Khandelwal, a Chemical Engineer, wherein he had decided that there will be Zero kitchen waste disposed from our House. And we have bene proudly following and continuing this activity and feel happy to even promote to the people so that there is a defined process to reduce waste. Apart from the satisfaction of Zero Waste disposed, there is another important benefit of the compost which is created i.e. it serves a great organic home-made fertilizer for our plants at home.
Initially we faced certain issues and inconvenience, but then, gradually we understood the right method for the composting process and since then it has been a simple task and a routine to follow for us by simply converting the waste into a valuable product i.e., compost, as and when its generated.

Therefore, I feel it is very important every house / society should start with this initiative in order to reduce down the waste disposed from their end.
